On Saturday, March 17th AFC Leaders held a one-time cooking class with local community organization, Haley House Bakery and Cafe. This cooking class, sponsored by the National Council of Negro Women, was the AFC Leaders first bi-monthly community activity. Laurie and Kayla joined a group of AFC Leaders and mentors to make a healthy flatbread pizza and smoothie with lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, and seasonings. Leaders learned knife techniques, tasted interesting vegetables like broccoli raab, and made smoothies with ingredients including avocado, grapes, and dill seasoning.
The AFC Leaders events are set up to more readily create a community of our young people and engage them in meaningful one-time and on-going opportunities. We plan on providing fun, engaging opportunities that our young people will learn and benefit from. The next bi-monthly activity will be in the month of May. So, if you have any ideas for upcoming activities or opportunities for our young people 14 and older let us know! We would love to hear your ideas!
